August Porch Nights - Week One

  • Cedar House 1637 5th Ave San Rafael, CA, 94901 (map)

We're bringing back our much-loved tradition on the porch at Cedar House.  This is a fun opportunity to hear stories read aloud -- something we all enjoyed as kids, but you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it.

As the tradition goes, we’ll read a story written by the 19th century writer, George MacDonald - a huge favorite around here. Which story, exactly, hasn’t been determined yet — we’ll post it here when it’s decided.

MacDonald’s stories are known for being highly imaginative and full of deep, yet accessible teaching. As a writer, he was a true innovator, and had a significant influence on Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Madeleine L’Engle. (The photo of MacDonald shown here was actually taken by Lewis Carroll in the 1860's.)
