Summer Porch Nights - Week Two

  • Cedar House 1637 5th Ave San Rafael, CA, 94901 (map)

This is a fun opportunity to hear stories read aloud -- something we all enjoyed as kids, but you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it.

As the tradition goes, we’ll read old stories, many written by the 19th century Scottish writer, George MacDonald - a huge favorite around here. This week we’ll read an excerpt from the book Lilith, which he first published in 1895.

MacDonald’s stories are known for being highly imaginative and full of a deep, yet accessible wisdom. As a writer, he was a true innovator, and had a significant influence on Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Madeleine L’Engle. (The photo of MacDonald shown here was actually taken by Lewis Carroll in the 1860's.)
