August Porch Nights - Week Five

  • Cedar House 1637 5th Ave San Rafael, CA, 94901 (map)

This is a fun opportunity to hear stories read aloud -- something we all enjoyed as kids, but you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it. Come on by — everyone is welcome.

As the tradition goes, we’re reading stories written by the 19th century Scottish writer, George MacDonald - a huge favorite around here. This week we’ll read his short story, “Little Daylight.”

MacDonald’s stories are known for being highly imaginative and full of a deep, yet accessible wisdom. As a writer, he was a true innovator, and had a significant influence on Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Madeleine L’Engle. (The photo of MacDonald shown here was actually taken by Lewis Carroll in the 1860's.)
