August Porch Nights - Week Two

  • Cedar House 1637 Fifth Avenue San Rafael, CA, 94901 (map)

We're continuing our much-loved tradition on the porch at Cedar House.  This is a fun opportunity to hear stories read aloud -- something we all enjoyed as kids, but you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it.

We will be reading from a story written by George MacDonald - a huge favorite around here. The genre of this tale is Rural Celtic Fantasy. MacDonald’s stories are known for being highly imaginative and full of deep, yet accessible teaching. As a writer, he was a true innovator, and had a significant influence on Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Madeleine L’Engle, and others. (The photo of MacDonald shown here was actually taken by Lewis Carroll in the 1860's.)
